oh my stomache...

OK, after the movie last night we went out for a bite to eat.

I believe I may have gotten food poisoning. I wanted to die. No really... it was bad.

To make matters worse - at church, the primary children (ages 4-11) do a "presentation" in our main congregational meeting to sing, say lines & express to their families all they have been learning in Sunday School throughout the year. Parents look forward to it & this was the first time Averie was old enough to participate - she even had a line to deliver which she has been working on memorizing the past few weeks.

As usual, Graham left for meetings this morning & I felt like DEATH. I had been waking up through the night with really bad nausea but was fighting the actual throwing up (I HATE THROWING UP - not to mention the last thing I had eaten was cheesy spinach & artichoke dip! Ugh!) - I managed to get the kids ready while fighting waves of nausea & hot & cold flashes - only to finally succumb & end up over the toilet MINUTES before we were supposed to leave!

I decided then that I couldn't go, but Averie really needed to be there, so I threw on some jeans & my Uggs & put the kids in the van. I got there & my hubby was waiting outside to help me unload the kids. As he got Evan & Averie out, I told him I wasn't coming in - he took one look at me & was like, "Eesh! Go home, Honey."

I couldn't do it! I circled the parking lot 3 times attempting to leave. I finally parked & started crying! I have never felt like that before! I couldn't believe I was going to miss it!! It was my first born's first primary presentation...

I probably sound like an idiot to most of you, but I've been going to church my whole life & remember doing these as a child. I remember what it felt like to stand in front of my whole congregation & see my parents proud beaming faces as I said my line...

I just couldn't miss it it!

So, I sucked up my pride, walked into the church (in my jeans & Uggs, remember!) & sat in the foyer until the presentation started. Then I calmly walked over to my family (carrying Brynlea in her carseat) & sat down next to my extremely shocked husband. I fought back wave after wave of nausea but managed to sit there until I saw my baby do her thing - she was the ONLY child in her class who had her line memorized & didn't need prompting from her teacher - ah, so proud :)

Then I promptly left & managed to get home before the stomache went bezerk again.

I went straight to bed & have only recently emerged. It seems the worst of it is over - though I haven't attempted to eat anything yet...

Mom guilt - it'll do crazy things to you!

Everything comes down to...

Warning!! This is a blog entry that only Moms can TRULY appreciate.
Those with a weak constitution when it comes to body functions, may wanna skip this one :)...

I'm starting to wonder if the pediatrician in ER is going to start knowing me by name.

This particular incident was one that sort of creeps up on you, as apposed to the "surprise" incidents that land you in the ER with your children.

It always amazes me when we have babies how much our lives suddenly become about body functions... namely poop & pee. Yup, I said it.

From the minute their born, we're counting them, charting them, watching color & consistency as a means of making sure everything is "functioning" the way it should be. Usually within the first few weeks any of the kinks are worked out & you fall into a fairly regular routine.

Well, in the last 48 hours Brynlea's diapers were suddenly "changing" from her usual yellowish green (she gets about 50/50 lactose-free formula & breastmilk - so that's normal) & getting gradually darker & more "tar-like" until this evening she had one that was EXACTLY like meconium (new baby's first poo) - now she's my 3rd baby & I could not recall ever having a 5 month old with meconium diapers in the past, so I did what I always do...

hit the internet! University of Google, I call it :)

The results I got on the internet talked of black diapers being caused by "partially digested blood" and could be a sign of internally bleeding. YIKES! Now I'm worried! So, I head to my next resource... the BC Nurses Hotline - or the "prevent the ER nurses from calling me an idiot" hotline... they confirmed what the internet said - that she should be seen right away & I should bring the last diaper with me.

So, after a quick Priesthood Blessing from Daddy, off we went to the BRAND NEW Abbotsford Hospital (which is wonderful by the way!) - they have a "pediatric" area in the ER where the curtains are funky colors & they have these like screen covers over the overhead lights so when you lay down on the bed & look up, you see this...

This is seriously the ceiling above Brynlea's bed! I took it with my cell phone camera. Pretty nice, eh?

Anyway, back to Brynlea... so we spent 3 hours in the ER. Brynlea got the once over & they ran a test on the "specimen" which came back negative for blood. They concluded it could've been something I ate, which passed through the breast milk (ie. blueberries- this is a very big possibility) - I never thought stuff like that passed through breast milk, though! Strange...

However, as stressful as being in the ER with your child can be, it was all I could do to hold in my giggles because THIS scene from Scrubs kept playing in my head...
